To find the best clerical job, you must be prepared. Make up a resume and be sure to include your proficiency levels with computer programs, especially word processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling software. Also mention any other office skills, such as experience with a certain phone system or shipping program.
If possible, have letters of reference from previous employers, even if they were not office jobs. Even a recommendation from a high school job can strengthen your chances.
Be prepared to take office skills tests, including word processing, spreadsheet, and filing. Practice these skills to make sure you are as sharp as possible. Explore other software programs, if you have a chance, so you have some familiarity with them. Additionally, you may take a course in office software and get a certificate showing your accomplishment.
